Wouldn’t say any scene couldn’t be attempted if planned properly and oils particularly lend themselves to very loose paintings. Check out British Impressionist Society on FB. You’ll never know unless you give it a try.
This is a wedding venue near Chepstow that my son is getting married in next year. They asked me to paint a pic of the place then at the reception they will ask all the guests to sign the mount to keep as a momento of the day. A nice touch. To be honest it’s not my best work and the photo isn’t great but I’m happy enough to pass it on. Opinions welcome.
If you can get it where you are maybe you could try Inktense. Blocks of water soluble ink that would suit your style perfectly. They’ve also just brought out a pan set that looks like a watercolour set for ease of use.
Don’t think it needs a background really. Looking at the wall you’ve got the light coming from the right so maybe shadow under the hat rims and on the clothes under the arm of the left hand man would help? Looks good though.
