    Hi all,

Thought i would try a portrait today, so i found a generic head on google and set about painting it. Rather than using a fresh palette i used the one i have been using recently which is set up for landscapes hence the neutral dull tones in this one.

As always all comments and critiques welcomed.

The palette is good – nothing wrong there, and this a good try at a portrait!

I think this very good, Martin! Great shadows around the eye, nose and on the neck. The eyeball is excellent.

I agree with all the others, Martin. It’s good to see you “spreading your wings”. I think portraits are the most difficult thing to paint.

I wrote a comment yesterday but it has disappeared in cyberspace…
Just wanted to say how impressed I am with your portrait. Very well done.

I like the neutral tones. It makes the painting very harmonious. I think the nose is especially good. I find noses the most difficult thing in a portrait.
